Grommets are generally flared or collared on each side to keep them in place, and made in various polymers depending on the application. They may be used to prevent tearing or abrasion of the pierced material or protection from abrasion of the insulation on the wire, cable, line being routed through the penetration, and to cover sharp edges of the piercing, or all of the above. Most common are molded rubber that are inserted into small hole diameters up to 2" in diameter. There are many hole configurations from standard round to assorted U-shapes. Larger penetrations that are irregular in shape as well as long straight edges often use extruded or stamped strips of continuous length. An O - Ring is a circular band with circular cross section to arrest leakages between two faces or over shaft and hole. They are designed to be seated in a groove and compressed during assembly between two or more parts, creating a seal at the interface. O–Rings selection is based on chemical compatibility, service temperature, sealing pressure, lubrication requirements and working atmosphere. Successful o-ring joint design requires a rigid mechanical mounting that applies a predictable deformation to the o-ring. This introduces a calculated mechanical stress at the o-ring contacting surfaces. As long as the pressure of the fluid being contained does not exceed the contact stress of the o-ring, leaking cannot occur. The seal is designed to have a point contact between the o-ring and sealing faces. This allows a high local stress, able to contain high pressure, without exceeding the yield stress of the o-ring body. The flexible nature of o-ring accommodates imperfections in the mounting parts. Mostly these O Rings are used to seal hydraulic, pneumatic and wherever sealing is required. When mismatching the sealing line and parting line, the sealing performance is improved due to the flash marks. Because there is a mechanical removal of flash is taken place in the sealing line. Rubber To Metal Bonded Part is a means by which rubber is mechanically bonded to a metal insert during the molding process. To begin the bonding process, the inserts are first prepped for production using a degreasing system to rid the parts of any contaminants before the adhesive is applied. Next, the heat activated adhesive is applied to the inserts using a technique similar to spray painting. Once the metals are prepared, they are ready for production. The inserts are then physically placed, one at a time, into each cavity of the mold. For inserts on the top of a part, special magnets are incorporated into the mold to hold them in place while the mold is being loaded. Also, for inserts being encapsulated into the rubber, special chaplet pins are incorporated into the mold to suspend the insert in the mold & allow the rubber to flow around the metal. Once the inserts are in place, the normal rubber molding process commences. After the mold is closed, and the molding begins, the adhesive on the metals is activated, allowing the inserts to bond to the rubber. Typical applications for rubber to metal bonding include, any part requiring the combination of the flexibility of rubber and the stability of a metal. Components ranging in size from small mounts for motors to large locomotive suspension parts are just a sampling of parts produced using this process. Spiral Wound Gaskets: Spiral-wound gaskets comprise a mix of metallic and filler material. Generally, the gasket has a metal (normally carbon rich or stainless steel) wound outwards in a circular spiral (other shapes are possible) with the filler material (generally a flexible graphite) wound in the same manner but starting from the opposing side. This results in alternating layers of filler and metal. The filler material in these gaskets acts as the sealing element, with the metal providing structural support. These gaskets have proven to be reliable in most applications, and allow lower clamping forces than solid gaskets, albeit with a higher cost. Spiral wound gaskets have proven to be the most reliable sealing element for use in difficult, critical and arduous duties. Spiral wound gaskets are used in Refinery, Petrochemical, Chemical, Steam lines and Process Industries, where they have many advantages over older types of gaskets. These gaskets are manufactured to International specifications such as BS, API, ASME, DIN.

CAF Gaskets A gasket material that is comprised of asbestos fibers encapsulated within a rubber binder. This type of gasket is tough, durable and dimensionally stable, relatively incompressible and exhibits low creep characteristics. It also has the ability to effectively form a seal over a wide range of service conditions which has given it a good reputation. Compressed asbestos fiber(CAF) gaskets have good chemical resistance capabilities and a good working temperature range of cryogenic to 1,100F. It is less suitable for low bolt loads such as use with non-metallic flanges and low grade bolts, and is not suitable for use in stainless steel flanges due to its chlorine content which will damage the flanges.
